JPaul had a few questions about the quiz that he was supposed to take on Friday. I reminded him on how to use the formula for arc length with a different example. Then I gave him his quiz back. He got a 100% on it. Way to go JPaul!! We had recess during our class and Matthew decided to come in for a game of cards. Good kids -they are!
Today Carson completed the online test that he had on Thursday in class. He worked until about halfway through the period. He said he finished. When he submitted it, he got a 60%. We were both surprised by the score so we went back through the problems. Of the 10 questions, I decided to throw out 1 because it was challenging and we had not discussed it before. The other two problems he got wrong were because he used the actual PI instead of rounding like the directions asked. So his answers were actually more accurate than what they wanted him to submit. So I gave him credit back for those. The only mistake that he legitimately made was on the volume of a cylinder. He misunderstood the problem and seemed to have found the surface area instead of the volume. Overall, he did well and his test grade was a 90%
Today we began by reviewing the problems Joshua had for homework over the weekend in his AP Classroom account. Joshua got a 3/6, 5/6 and 3/9 on them. We went through and discussed each problem he got wrong. He seemed to have a better understanding of the content than his scores showed. Then we moved into 3.11 and started discussing the reciprocal trig functions, secant, cosecant, and cotangent. We will finish that lesson tomorrow.
Matthew had a quiz on Friday. He did not finish so today he completed it in class. Before he began he had a quick question to clarify his approach to solving for degrees/minutes/seconds. After he finished the quiz we graded it together. He got a 100% - way to go Matthew. After the quiz we pulled out our ACT prep packet and worked on those problems together. Matthew is scheduled to take his ACT on June 6th.
Christopher wrote his spelling words in his dictionary. We discussed his genre chart and brought it up to date. We read The Watsons Go to Birmingham and discussed it. Christopher typed some of his movie script.
Using change color markers and chalk markers, Richard practiced his spelling words (bear, tear, pear, wear) and words with igh. He read books with words he can read.
