Today we spent the first half of the class organizing our math notebook. Then we practiced some review problems. PJ reviewed the order of operations. He correctly simplified expressions in the right order. Then he reviewed one and two step equations. We recalled how to check our work by plugging our answers back into the original equations. He did an excellent job!
Today Carson had an application Test. I wanted to give him a different type of assessment instead of the traditional paper and pencil test. These problems had multiple steps, requiring Carson to find one piece of information and use it to find another. Given information such as the slant height, or base length, Carson was asked to find the height of the figures. He did an excellent job and earned a 100% for the assessment!
We read Jet (I read first, then he read it). We played Bingo with CVC words (cat, hop, sit, hat). We read Piggie and Gerald stories with stuffed animals.

I substituted for Jason's language arts since Christopher was not here today.
Today we covered what happens when we have a fraction of a degree. We thought about if we sliced the Earth in the middle and looked at a cross section of it. We agreed that the width of 1 whole degree would represent the distance between cities, possibly countries. So then to be more accurate, we can break down degrees into minutes and seconds. We learned there are 60 minutes in 1 degree, and 60 seconds in 1 minute. Then we practiced converting decimal degrees into minutes and seconds.
