Radical Simplification and Distance formula
Lesson Outline
Today Carson and I started with a warm-up on how to simplify radicals. We worked on the white board. Carson used the factor tree to break down numbers into a product of primes. Then, he simplified the radical. We started with square roots, and then applied the same process with cube roots. Then we moved to an activity on the distance formula. I asked Carson to recall from yesterday what it was. He was SO close. This is a formula he will eventually need to have memorized (or he can derive it like we did yesterday with the pythagorean theorem). We practiced using the formula to find the distance between two points in a coordinate plane. Then Carson reduced the answers to their simplest form.

ACT Practice
Lesson Outline
Today I showed Matthew you an ACT Math prep packet I printed out for him. Moving forward, we are going to do 2-3 problems each day as a warm up and tutorial for him to increase his ACT Test taking skills. Today we reviewed concepts in working with fractions, as well as exponent properties. Next, we moved back into our Trig lesson. We finished the lesson we started last class on how to convert radians to degrees and how to convert degrees into radians. Matthew finds this topic to be easy.

Today Joshua and I spent over half of the period going through his homework problems. Joshua made some mistakes in his work and we needed to go back and re-work them. Joshua corrected his misunderstanding, which had to do with counting the x-axis values properly. After that we completed the 3.2A section on Radians. We watched a short distance explaining what 1 radian is and why 360 degrees is equivalent to 2pi. Then we completed practice problems which asked which quadrant a given angle is, given in radians.
