Chris wrote his spelling words in his journal and divided them into syllables. We watched the video of The Monkey's Paw. Then he did a Venn diagram comparing the story and the movie.
We began the session with a sentence editing worksheet from Cade's school. Cade marked the capitalization and punctuation and then re-wrote the correct sentences. I noticed that Cade had difficulty identifying a complete sentence. I explained that "a sentence has a subject and a verb and is a complete thought." Next, I evaluated Cade's phonics using the Quick Phonics Screener; I will tally the data and report on it in the next session. We went outside for a quick break, playing ping pong and a card game of SLAP with open closed, and r-controlled syllables.
To conclude, we went back inside to practice syllabication strategies for VCCV and VCV words. We previewed and started from his school textbook, identifying the title and author and illustrating and highlighting vocabulary. We will read the story in the next session. Great work, Cade!
Libby used Play Doh and chalk markers to practice short vowel words. On writing paper, she wrote short e words. We sang Old McDonald with short vowel words. I read a Jan Brett book and discussed her artwork.
Libby was seen in her room for a 45-minute treatment session with the focus of therapy on fine motor skills specifically grasp patterns, ocular motor skills (saccades), self care skills, and handwriting. OT continues to encourage Libby to wear a variety of clothes and hairstyles via a sticker chart. Libby was happy and focused today. We continue to work on letter identification of the uppercase alphabet which has almost been mastered. She got 24/26 letters correct. Today Libby was introduced to "Print Island" which is a handwriting program that teaches children manuscript writing in a fun and creative way. It involves coconuts (starting visual cue for each letter), palm trees (visual cues for sizing of letters, and stories (auditory cues for formation of letters). Libby was introduced to the basic components of the program and seemed to understand the concepts well. These concepts will continue to be reinforced as she goes through the program. She did a practice worksheet of the pencil movement of the first group of letters which has the auditory cue of "fall down climb up". Then she did a worksheet in the program for lowercase letter "r" which she formed and sized well with the visual and auditory cues provided. She is making steady gains and is a pleasure to have in therapy.
Libby was seen in her room for a 45-minute treatment session with the focus of therapy on fine motor skills specifically grasp patterns, ocular motor skills (saccades), self care skills, and handwriting. OT has also focused on sensory processing and having Libby be more comfortable with wearing a variety of clothes (weather appropriate) and different hairstyles (only wants to wear her hair one way which is down). Libby continues to be encouraged with a sticker chart to wear different clothes and her hair different ways. She is excited to report what she wore and how she styled her hair over the past week to earn stars on her chart. We continued therapy with recall for upper case letters. Libby is now able to identify all of the letters of the upper case alphabet with 100% accuracy. We continued our work on Print Island. Libby was taught the "fall down, climb up letter" lowercase "r" two weeks ago. Today she was instructed on the lowercase letter "n". She was able to form and size it well when provided with a coconut and a trunk as a visual boundary. By the end of the practice page she was able to form it independently well. We continue to work on hand strength, dexterity and manipulation to work the intrinsic muscles of her hands. Great session, Libby is making good gains this year.
Libby used paint pens to practice writing short vowel words. She used her new pencils to write the words on her writing paper. We watched a video of a Laura Numeroff story. We reviewed the authors and illustrators we have discussed.

Libby is late every day. It's good that I have her for two sessions.
