Unit 4 Humans and Their Place in the Universe Module 1 Earth and Human Activity
Lesson Outline
Lesson 1 Human Population Growth – We investigated the negative impacts on Earth’s resources based on human populations and per capita consumption of natural resources. We discovered how the demand for freshwater resources is becoming increasingly strained due to population growth. We also learned how extraction of fossil fuels can lead to significant ecological damage.
Teaching Little Fingers to Play - Betty and Bill, and Flying to the Moon.
Lesson Outline
We continued working on the lessons from Teaching Little Fingers to Play. We read some simple songs that share rhythms between hands in the same measure.
Reid's teacher from St. Ann's joined us to discuss Reid's progress and brainstorm ways to support him. His teacher praised Reid's intelligence and attitude but expressed concern about his executive-functioning skills, especially as he enters 5th grade with a less structured teacher.
I began with visual, auditory, and blending drills. We reviewed the r-controlled syllable type (er, ir, ur, ar, or). Eliana read multiple word lists to practice (Recipe for Reading, pp. 135, 137, 139). Eliana's spelling deck from last session included -ar words; I dictated these words and Eliana has near-mastery of the spelling pattern. I introduced the vowel team -ai, and created a spelling deck of example words. Eliana loves practicing cursive; we reviewed all letters, and I introduced f, m, and n. Eliana is eager to connect letters and attempted a page of two and three connected letters. To conclude, Eliana read several oral passages from Wilson, book 3.
