We will review what has been completed in the first three weeks of class. We will also look at solving equations using a method that is called backtracking. It requires determining what is done to x in the equation, and then doing the opposite operations in the opposite order. David will have success using this method because it requires more creative thinking than using rules.

David logged in late. He was having trouble with his email and login information. He said he will get help to get the information saved for easier access. We have covered more information in these first three weeks than I planned. David is doing well to this point.
We will change word statements of equations into symbols and then solve the equations. We will discuss ways to make the problems more difficult. The method of clearing fractions from an equation will be used to simplify the work involved in the solving process. The method of clearing decimals will also be used. David will make up problems for me to solve and I will make up problems for him to solve.

We completed the plan and will be ready to apply of the methods learned today to problems involving formulas and problems related to real situations.
We will study ways to express basic algebraic expressions in words as well as in symbols. We will identify key words that indicate arithmetic operations including sum, difference, product, and quotient. We will practice changing symbols to words and also changing words to symbols. We are leading into solving word problems.

After some login issues we accomplished the plan and will begin solving word problems tomorrow.
I will "prove" that two is equal to one using algebraic expressions and properties of equality. Obviously there will be a flaw in my proof, but it will not be obvious. This will lead into equation solving and equations that are contradictions and equations that are identities.

1-7 Absolute Value Equations and Inequalities – We reviewed how to solve equations and inequalities that involve absolute value. We practiced solving compound inequalities that use or/and. Then we reviewed for a test.
