Review: Absolute Value Functions
Lesson Outline
Ben had a GREAT day today. We did a review on what we've learned about absolute value equations. I've learned when I do the writing and allow Ben to watch and listen, he's much more apt to pay attention. I keep him engaged with constant questioning, "How does adding to the x affect the graph?"...He answers, then I respond with, "How do you know?" He stayed with me the entire class. We reviewed graphing and how to write the equation's function given the graph. We reviewed domain and range. At the end of class, I thanked Ben for his participation. I said, "Ben you did great today. Days like today make me really happy! Because I am seeing your full potential and you are extremely smart." (He has trouble taking compliments and usually just reponds with a non-emotional, "OK"). I also said, "Some days you don't give yourself the opportunity to thrive, but on the days you do, you really have impressive skills." Way to go Ben!

MAP Testing
Lesson Outline
Today Ben finished his MAP Testing. He had difficulty with it. There were many questions that we haven't seen yet, so I told Ben to give his best guestimate. At the end of class, we had 10 minutes left to spare. So I allowed him some free time on the computer.

MAP Testing
Lesson Outline
Today Ben had MAP testing for Math. Ben was slow to get started. He complained about his head, Jason yelling too much, and disliking the font. Each time I acknowledged his concern and then encouraged him to focus on the test. During the test, I had to ask him to "Please stop doing that," multiple times. He was scratching at the computer camera, flicking the mouse button back and forth, and trying to lift up the keys. He did not use the paper or pencil I provided him. I believe he clicked through the problems every few minutes. He did not complete the test during the class period, so he will resume tomorrow.

4-2 Solving Systems of Equations by Substitution – We practiced using the substitution method to solve systems of equations and we completed the homework from last night. We were able to represent situations of systems of equations and interpret solutions as viable/nonviable options for the situation.

4-2 Solving Systems of Equations by Substitution – We learned that substitution is one method for solving systems of equations. The process involves solving one equation for a variable and substituting the solution into the system’s other equation. This results in an equation in one variable. When you have one of the variables you can solve for the other variable by substituting it into one of the original equations in the system.
