Lesson Comments
During tonight's remote tutoring session with Anabel, she worked productively with me while assisting her to prepare for her Physics test tomorrow. We worked on a "Study guide" involving various problems with Speed, distance, and Time graphs and word problems. Anabel is a pleasant young lady and it is a positive experience tutoring her.

Lesson Topic
Heat of fusion of ice lab
Lesson Outline
Follow the procedures to determine the fusion of water. Lab #62 as found in the lab manual. All temperature measurements are recorded every 10 seconds as the ice melts completely. A graph of the time v temperature will be constructed. The heat energy lost will be calculated in calories, as will the heat energy gained.
Assignment
Sketch a complete graph from the data

Session Date
Lesson Topic
thermodynamics
Lesson Outline
Define absolute zero and discuss the atomic and molecular motion which leads to absolute zero. Define it as -273 degree celsius. Kelvin temperatures have no degree designations, they are just listed as Kelvin units. Determine boiling and freezing temperature of water using kelvin units, freezing is 273 K units and boiling is 373 K units. Determine the formula for conversion. K =C(degrees) + 273. Discuss early thoughts regarding heat as an invisible fluid which flows like water. Discuss James Joules demonstration that heat flow was nothing more than a flow of energy. State and discuss the first law of thermodynamics.

Thermodynamics
Lesson Outline
Discuss the effect of increasing kinetic energy on atoms. Determine that the effect is seen in temperature changes. Determine the upper and lower limits of temperature, and elicit that there is no upper limit but a lower limit exists. Introduce and analyze absolute zero which exists when no more energy can be extracted from a substance. Define absolute zero as -273 degrees centigrade. Define Kelvin temperature, named after Lord Kelvin.

Lesson Topic
Einstein's theory of relativilty
Lesson Outline
View a video which discusses how Einstein used a thought process to arrive at the general and specific theories of relativity. Discuss and analyze how time dilation and length contraction occur in space time. Observe that a space traveler, traveling at near the speed of light, will return from a 10 year trip through the galaxy and demonstrate only a 1 year increase in age.
