A leprechaun left a trail of real shamrocks for us to follow to find clues that would help us find his black pot, Inside the pot we found shamrock pencils, a bag of gold coins, gold nugget candy, shamrock cookies, and magical dust with a recipe for magical leprechaun pudding, We used the pencils to practice printing. Then everyone followed the recipe to make their individual bowls of leprechaun pudding. Discussed what chemical reaction made it turn green and why stirring it helped it thicken. Made leprechaun necklaces. Dressed up like leprechauns and delivered goodies to the other students. Counted groups of 10-50 gold coins. Added groups of coins to make fifty. Divided 50 coins into two piles to find half of fifty and see if 50 is odd or even. Glued the real shamrocks on poster board to create bookmarks and decorated and laminated them. Quinn started it today during his free time when he decided to help Stephen make a heart for his mom. Before long they were making paper bridges for their cars and then the girls started making a woods for the stuffed animals to live in -there were art supplies and projects all over the floors and tables in both rooms.
