Using images and photos, lesson on the anatomy and physiology of the hypothalamus and the thalamus.
Indicate how the thalamus is involved in integration of sensory impulses, the feeling of pain but not the location, the suppression of "unimportant" sensations while engaged in an enjoyable activity, allowing the cerebrum to concentrate in other areas.
The role the thalamus plays in alertness, awareness, and the contribution to memory.
Introduce the anatomy of the cerebrum and discuss gray matter, white matter, longitudinal fissure, corpus callosumm, gyri, and sulci.
Continuing with the introduction to the major parts of the brain. The anatomy and main functions of the pons, midbrain, cerebellum, and hypothalamus. Examples of how each part works in conjunction with all the other parts.
Using images, the main parts of the brain are listed and placed anatomically. These include the medulla, pons, cerebellum, thalamus, hypothalamus, midbrain, and cerebrum. Each will be examined independently. The ventricles of the brain and the vital centers discussed, along with the cerebral spinal fluid. The vital function of the centers outlined.

Nina is great to have in class. She always has interesting questions, and her previous knowledge makes it easy to work with her.
Read and discuss an abstract regarding the history and use of heroin, its affect on the nervous system.

Differentiate between tolerance and addiction dependence.
Introduce depression, its affects, features, and feelings.
Anhedonia is discussed as being a key factor in depression diagnoses.
Chemical imbalances of Serotonin, Dopamine, and Norepinephrine is seen to contribute to depression. Treatment with selective neurotransmitter re-uptake inhibitors discussed, along with the physiology and pharmacology of action.

Nina asks intelligent and thought provoking questions.
During today’s class, Lena worked on several worksheets where she had to apply all the knowledge that she had acquired about the respiratory system. She was able to solve almost all the questions without even checking her notes.
We watched two short videos as a review of the concepts that we had previously studied. Then, Lena did a practice where she had to label the different parts of the respiratory system, and finally, we continued with the lecture where Lena continued taking her notes.
