Macy and I spent some time playing with the interactive Math Mat Challenge. She did Level 1 numbers/counting and Level 2 sequencing numbers. She enjoyed this. She stands in the middle of the mat and answers questions by stepping on the correct number/answer. It has sound! We looked at a giant book of "Florida's Fabulous Butterflies". Afterwards, we watched the animated version of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. She really liked this. We made a Spring 3D picture out of clay - a butterfly, caterpillar and flower. We also practiced her sight words, which are displayed on her classroom wall.
Macy and I read "Owl Moon" by Jane Yolen. We also read "The Little White Owl" by Tracey Corderoy and Jane Chapman. Macy practiced writing her name. She had her photo taken today for our school yearbook. We watched "Seasons" and "Spring" on BrainPopJr and printed two activities to do together. The first was a prompt to write a poem about one of the seasons using the letters of the word. She did this with Spring. We also completed "Macy's Spring Walk" by going outside with a clipboard and noting what Macy saw, heard and smelled. We learned how seasons change and what happens to plants and animals in Spring. We also read "Ten Little Ladybugs" by Melanie Gerth. (Macy had just finished making ladybugs with Ms. Maylie.) and "Counting in the Garden" by Kim Parker, which combined counting practice with Spring! Finally, we played a round of number bingo!
Today we read a story, talked about unknown words, and the different characters in the book. Then, Macy drew a picture and wrote a sentence about it. Next, we did numbers bingo, a quick craft, and then used blocks to practice counting, adding, subtracting, and problem solving. We ended by reading another story.
Danny wanted to count over 100, and he did. He counted to 200. He read word numbers. Example: ten, eleven, twelve... He added single digit numbers, and worked on handouts adding and subtracting items and figures. Great job, Danny.
Subtraction and Count by 10's: Danny subtracted single digits today and counted to 100 by 10's. He loved counting to 100 by tens. He would high five me every time he got to 100. He subtracted single digits like 8-3=5, 9-4=5, etc. He did a super job in both areas.
Addition, count down to Danny"s birthday, and shapes
Lesson Outline
Addition, count down to Danny's Birthday , and shapes: Danny did a great job today with addition using the number line. His birthday is April 10th we are doing a countdown to that day. Also, he had to identify shapes like halves and quarters. I am very proud of you, Danny.
Addition and parts of Whole: Danny did a good job with addition today using single digits. Also he had to identify parts of a whole, halves and quarters, counting objects shown on hand outs, and noting the number of objects. He said the months of the year and told me next month is his birthday.
Half and Quarters: Danny said the months of the year and the days of the week. He identified halves and quarters of items and marked and x on the quarter items and colored the half items. He did a good job and followed directions very well. Way to go, Danny.
