Today Stephen and I began by working through fraction word problems. Stephen had to multiply whole numbers by fractions and then reduce them to the lowest term. Stephen played a quick division activity and moved on to working on multi-step division problems. We did a few example problems together and then Stephen worked on it independently. We checked his work and went back to figure out where he made his mistakes, and fixed them.
Today we learned the vocabulary involved with the parts of our body and sang a song together. Also, we played hockey while practicing the body parts just learned.
LA Enrichment: Stephen and I shared reading, "The Adventures of Huck Finn". Both Tom and Huck planned to help Jim, their friend ( a captive slave), escape from the hut by digging a hole under it and getting him out to be a free man. We listed and defined words and phrases used in context. Stephen linked areas of the story well and discussed the possible outcome of events as they unfolded. Great going, Stephen.
We reviewed the definition of Economics together. Stephen provided specific examples related to why people invest (short-term, long-term, etc.). Then, we discussed low risk/low reward vs. high risk/high reward investments and the Rule of 72. Then, a hypothetical example related to the Rule of 72 was provided and I asked Stephen to figure out what the compound interest would be based on the criteria provided from age 10 to 82. Stephen logged in to the stock market game to review his portfolio and make one purchase. We also started to look at the last tutorial video in his assignment section.
