Today we went over the days of the week by answering ¿Que dia es hoy? We learned what happens with names and last names in Spanish speaking countries. In addition, we read a short presentation on a boy called Christian. Jackson did a similar one about himself and drew and colored himself. We gave the paragraph to Ms. Kelly to be published in the next issue of the school newspaper.
Jackson proofread and edited five short paragraphs. He corrected spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors. When complete, he self-checked against the answer key.
I showed Jackson an online game which allows students to solve open-ended problems. He also found an online game which develops strategies to solve mazes.

Jackson was totally engaged in the game which enhances problem solving abilities with out-of-the-box thinking.
We looked at a clip from a Vice video about El Chapa Guzman. Then, we discussed possible presentation formats for Jackson's Haiti project. Jackson decided to use iMovie. I showed him two examples of student's work that I have saved. I wanted Jackson to use the movie as a model to help him complete his work.

Jackson displayed an interest in learning about El Chapo Guzman. We watched a short Vice video about Guzman. Then, Jackson decided he wants to use iMovie for his Haiti Project. I showed him two examples of student's work that I saved. We talked about ways to use visuals, text information, and music to enhance the presentation.
Jackson will be writing a research paper about conspiracy theories surrounding President Kennedy's assassination. He began researching the various conspiracies so that he can narrow his topic down to just one. For homework, he will come up with an initial main topic and direction for his paper.
Jackson wrote three sentences using the vocabulary from the story. He also wrote a thoughtful answer to a question about whether Charlie is better off with the operation. He then continued to read the story, and we discussed how now the narration is both first-person and third-person as Charlie recalls his past.
Today Jackson spent time working on a writing assignment he had been assigned by Mr. Walt. When he was finished, he read a selection of "Time for Kids" articles and we discussed them.
Jackson wrote sentences for three more of the vocabulary words related to the story. He also answered a question that required him to reflect on the main character's development. He then continued to read the story.
Jackson does a wonderful job redesigning his mini derby car profile by research on the internet. Axle holes are carefully measured and drilled. New profile is cut out and traced on wood. Shaping is begun by using a file. Excellent session.
Identifying the difference between, multiplying binomials, factoring a trinomial, solving an equation using the Zero Product Property, and factoring to create the situation to use this property.
