We completed a variety of problems at different difficulty levels.Ben demonstrates the ability to solve problems intuitively. We are working on his use of basic skills to go along with his intuitive approach.
We will continue to review our study of geometry and we will add additional new material to take geometry to a higher level. We will also do some standardized test preparation to prepare Ben for upcoming testing.

We are progressing well in our review and adding information as needed to help in upcoming testing.
We will look at problems that could appear on standardized tests such as a geometry end of course exam or the SAT or ACT tests. This is to determine any concepts that we will need to review or remediate before the course ends.

Ben did a very good job with the problems we worked on today. We did identify an area of weakness related to solving algebraic equations. We will review these concepts.
We will complete our study of parameters in equations using the equations for ellipses. We will then do problems to review the concepts of geometry and develop problem solving strategies.
Assignment
Identify an equation of an ellipse.

We completed the study on ellipses and started our problem solving examples.
We will use areas to determine probabilities. We will also use probabilities to determine areas of irregularly shaped regions. We will draw a 12 by 12 grid and then draw a triangle inside the grid. We will randomly generate points inside the 12 by 12 grid and determine the probability that a point is inside the triangle.

We accomplished the goals for today. We determined the probabilities using random numbers and compared them to the theoretical probabilities found using the ratio of the areas.
We studied the circle and its equation. We graphed the circle using the center and radius form of the equation. We also looked at the general second degree equation.
Assignment

Relating graphs of geometric figures to equations is an important skill. Ben has a good understanding of this process.
We will look at a variety of families starting with the family of linear equations. We will identify different forms of the equation pf aline and the meaning of parameters within the equation.
Assignment
Know the meaning of y = mx + b.

We had a very good session. Ben understands this concept of coordinate geometry.
We will complete our study of trigonometry by graphing circular functions. We will also find the equation of a circular function by determining the values of the parameter and inserting them into the equation.

We completed the trig part of geometry. We will begin transformations and coordinate geometry tomorrow.
Circular function equations model certain types of wave motion. We will use a slinky to produce transverse and longitudinal waves. We will apply the periodic nature of these waves to equations and identify the significance of the parameters amplitude, frequency, period, vertical shift, and phase shift.
