We got started on the basic vocabulary techniques today and I must say, Jack seems to be in good position for this test, especially given he's not taking it for a year. His Dad sat in on the session and I thought both of them got a lot out of it.

Today was my first time meeting with Jack and I think the session went very well. We started out going over his past english homework so I could get a sense of his weaknesses. We then went through two chapters of Tom Sawyer and answered the reading questions he was assigned from homework. Jack is very good at taking notes while reading and he had little trouble finding the right answers. However, he doesn't always answer the questions fully and needs to work on developing his ideas fully. In Math, Jack is caught up, but his Dad was concerned he's weak on basic calculations and order of operations. We went through the non-linear equations chapter and took each problem step by step. Jack definitely has a problem with negative numbers and often tried to do all the work in his head without writing out the problem. I think he saw the advantage of taking the time to go step by step through the work.
