Prior to the practice section we did a few warmup problems. I explained the benefits and rational to warmup problems prior to the actual test. Jonathan answered the 5 warmup problems (geometry) correctly. On the 1st timed section he answered 27/30 correctly. 2 wrong answers were proportions (1/3 correct on the section) and a long division of complex numbers. We review the correct way to solve the problems. I showed jonathan the technique for solving proportions, but he was resistive. I tried to point out to him that he answered 1/3 proportions problems correctly and that this method would allow him to answer all correct. We moved onto the 2nd practice test. He got frustrated on the first problem , which took him 4 minutes(he needs to work at a pace of apron 1 minute per problem). Sensing his frustration, I told him "do not worry, keep working. You will make the time up on another problem." He was stumped on question #2 and his frustration was growing. I gave him a hint by saying, "Plug in" He did not want to plug int because it "takes too long." He played around with numbers and ideas in his head for another minute then picked the incorrect answer. I explained to him that 6 of the 25 questions in this section were problems to be solved by plugging in. I showed him why that was the case. I tried to explain to him that even if it takes a little longer it will lead him to the correct answer, which is the ultimate goal. He continued to be very resistive. I showed him some more examples and gave him some practice problems along with my solutions worked out to follow along with.

Jonathan was very attentive and enthusiastic. We went through various fundamentals of geometry ranging from areas of various shapes to how to find angle measurements. We also did more practice word problems since this is a source of worry for him. EH did very well answering practice problems in both of the areas. Again, he has proven to have a strong foundation of mathematics and an analytical mind capable of computing and solving intricate math problems.

Jonathan was very enthusiastic and attentive. He has a good foundation of math as well as a good math skill set. My objective is to determine where his weaknesses are and teach him test strategies for those areas/types of problems. He is very analytical and works a bit too fast in his mind, creating the occasional careless error. He expressed a concern about the word problems on the test so we spent a good portion of time going over how to approach word problems, then did some practice word problems.
