We took over the office that Jackson had just vacated, as our studio. We created a backdrop, and a stage for our production. Using a piece of styrofoam, Devon created a mound that will serve as a base for the 'characters' or flowers in the video. We set up the camera and tripod, with Devon deciding how to mark each so we did not lost the best angle for shooting. Finally we finalized a story-board for shooting the video. We will start shooting on Monday.
We used this science class to prepare for our claymation video - we worked on strategy for filming, and how our characters would best be captured on camera. We also completed construction on the main character, which needs several iterations for filming.
Scientific Notation: convert large numbers to multiples of 10 with an exponent. Devon exhibited operational understanding converting numbers to scientific notation. Great job Devon.

Fast Forward
Reading - introduce science fiction - fictional events in the future based on technology or science. Read/discuss orally "Sci-Fi Prep." Devon started a new program on Fast Forward...and seemed to do very well on the exercises. She said she had not read science fiction, so this will be an interesting unit.
Devon went online and studied maps of Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe…an area they will see during their safari. Then we watched a documentary called "First Out of Africa". It was an interesting session. Devon is trying to decide on a project that will demonstrate what she found most interesting at the end of our study of Africa. Good session.
