Ashley had difficulty with the reading assignment. She felt like it was beyond her understanding. We decided to work through it together. Through this process it made more sense to her. This material is college level and she is interested in trying the material for the sake of practice.
Good session. Ashley admits this material is a little uninteresting but is willing to keep working at it. I think the practice working with college level material will pay off in the long run.
Ashley and I discussed the chapters that she read for homework (theme, climax, metaphor, symbol). We also discussed several thesis topics for her midterm paper.
Using Quotes Feedback/Lesson; Oscar Wao discussion
Lesson Outline
I reviewed Ashley's "analyzing quotes" homework to see if she followed the class model. I then helped her to explicate an additional quote from the reading so that she could attempt another explication on her own. We spent the rest of class reading the rest of Ch. 6 of Oscar Wao.

Ashley needed a bit of help on explicating her quotes.
Ashley and I discussed the last part of Ch. 5 today in class (Beli's transition to life with La Inca). Additionally, I conducted a writing workshop on how to work with quotes.
