Mary was ontime for class today, for the first time in a long time. She did, however, forget to bring in her test. Mary has greatly improved in her yoga practice; main issues have been absences and tardiness, and not following through on any assignments.
Read through specific parts of book where man's relationship to the land is discussed. False relationship of the gentry who "owns" but is separate from and afraid of the land. Real relationshiop of the workign classes who simply work on or rent homes on the land of the gentry. We discussed what the deeper historical meanings of the land relationship are for this novel.

Yesterday, I did not give Mary a lecture…but I told her in no uncertain terms to have what I asked her to do to be completed. I was in a mood. I told her that including quotes would make it better. She had worked on the essay last night. Today, when I checked in with her near the end, she had written a good deal more of her essay and was looking through her book to include quotes. She offered to E-mail the finished version to me tonight.
Mary always manages to come through just in the nick of time. I told her to have a great weekend after she E-mails me the completed essay…nice class. She was plugged in and working again.

Lesson Comments
Good lesson. Students seemed fairly aware of events in the Middle East and very concerned about the difficulty in Japan.
All students seemed fairly comfortable with their understandings about WWI. Ashley is particularly strong.
