Joseph was very attentive and worked diligently during our Statistics test preparation tutoring session today. He is a very respectful young man and it was a positive experience working with him.
There was no lesson today due to a miscommunication about it being canceled. Lilly arrived for the lesson very soon after I had left for the day, but I did not get the message that she was there because my phone was silenced.

Lilly canceled at the last minute again. I believe (but may be mistaken) that this is the fourth time in a row. I waited for her for over two-and-a-half hours. There was some miscommunication about whether she had actually canceled or not.
We discussed measures of central tendency. Marcel thought it would be best for him to continue working on his statistics course alone. He is free to schedule a tutor session on an as-needed basis.
Jared and I worked through Teams to explore the possibility of tutoring him in his Statistics course. We tried to share files and were able to share professor videos and the syllabus. Unfortunately we were not able to share "Jump" or the textbook, which I felt were critical for me to be able to help him.

As we discussed, I will continue to look for a solution in order to help Jared with his course. Unfortunately my friend at Villanova was not available to help. I will explore other ideas and get back to you ASAP. Thanks again for compensating me for the time spent exploring solutions with Jared. The good news is that we get along well and he definitely wants to work with me for his Finance course starting in January.
I worked with Aubee on problems from her study packet. I reviewed with her problems involving bimodal distribution, probability in games of chance, combinations and permutations, and areas under the normal curve. There was one area of difficulty relating calculator operations to finding z-scores, but Aubee said she would get the answer from her instructor. There was no assignment.

Fortunately, Aubee sent the school a copy of her study packet to use in the review. Although the emphasis for Aubee's statistics class is different than the one I'm teaching, I managed to solve her areas of difficulty.
My plan was to further explain the difference between the density curve and the normal curve, to translate sigma values into percents and percents into sigma values, and to find z-scores from a normal curve. Since Taylor was not here today, I will teach this lesson this lesson during our next session. There was no assignment.

Displaying Data in Excel and the Normal distribution curve
Lesson Outline
I continued to help Taylor develop the data on numbers of births by month that she collected yesterday. We discussed possible means of displays of the data which included both the months and the days of student and teacher births. We decided that the best choice was to display the number of births in each month on the horizontal axis and the names of each month on the vertical scale.
I then introduced Taylor to density curves and the normal curve in particular. I showed her how the standard deviation and the mean define the shape of the Normal curve. We looked at IQ and height distributions.
Taylor had to leave early for a doctor's appointment. There was no assignment.
