Today Ayden took a 9x table practice drill of 25 problems. He also learned in Lesson 4-4 to use multiplication facts to find division facts. This is a little tricky for Ayden since he has not learned all of his facts yet. He has learned several methods to solve multiplication facts, so these help Ayden. He has learned that multiplication has an inverse relationship with division. Ayden should continue to practice all of his multiplication facts. We watched a couple of short videos that have rhythm, which sometimes helps Ayden. In FF, he played three brain games- Twisted Picture, Book Monkeys, and Canine Crew. He is learning a lot of new vocabulary from Canine Crew. Twisted Picture is helping to teach him to read carefully and to choose the BEST answer. Great job, today!
Ayden worked on using his vocabulary words in a sentence and fill in the blank story. In reading he had to draw conclusions after reading using inference clues.
Define a wave. What are three characteristics of wave? Crest, wavelength, wave height. How does water move in waves? How do oceans change coastlines? What is erosion?
Wilson- Ayden worked on dividing words with 3 or more closed, closed exception or v-e syllables. He did a great job but still needs more practice.
LA- Spelling- We put all his "ow" words into a silly sentence so when he takes his test he will know that the words in the silly sentence are "ow" words and words that are not are "ou" words.
Reading assessment on story - Seven Spools of Thread
Wilson- Reading and spelling 2 syllable words. Ayden is doing fantastic with this! We are moving on.
Activity: What makes the ocean move? Explore how temperature changes produce ocean currents.
Deep ocean current. How do they form? Surface current. What are some factors that determine the path of surface currents? What ocean motion is caused by gravity. What causes the tides?

Lesson Comments
Ayden loves to discuss and during the instructional period, he took great participation.
Today Ayden had a double session of Math because the internet was down. He explored the 9X tables and copied them down 2X. He now has a set of flashcards to study for next week's test. He has learned different strategies to solving the 9x tables, until they become rote for him. In Lesson 4-2 Ayden made connections between multiplication and division in order to understand how they are related. Ayden used multiplication to find the total number of objects there are in equal-sized groups that the total can be separated into. Ayden understands that related multiplication and division facts can be demonstrated as fact families. Understanding fact families will not only speed up his ability to find a product or quotient, but will also reinforce important multiplication and division concepts. Ayden used counters to demonstrate his ability to write various fact families. He also reviewed his new vocabulary terms, relating to division. Ayden completed his practice homework in class today, which gave me a chance to see that he understands the skills taught so far. Great job, Ayden!
Today we began to focus on the state of Florida. We went over the names of the capital and major cities, the directions between cities (e.g., Tallahassee is northwest of Miami), the bodies of water to the east and west of the state, certain bodies of water within the state (Lake Okeechobee and the Suwanee River, the latter of which runs out of state, too), and Everglades National Park. Ayden took a quiz, using a map of Florida printed from the TCI website. He aced it. Ayden had a lot of fun today, judging by his smiles and laughter.
