Persuasive Essay Final Revision, 1984 creative writing
Lesson Outline
Today, Zach completed the final revision of his persuasive essay. He included quotes and fixed run-ons and fragments as needed. Next, he began writing his next assignment, a creative writing prompt where he will write from the perspective of one of the secondary characters in 1984.
It's really hard to keep Zach focused on anything we do. He is great at procrastinating and actually do any exercises. He is complaining about shin splints now with running. I've been telling him since the beginning he needs new shoes. Also goggles would be great so he will put his face in the water when we swim. If you could talk to his mom that would be great!
We covered interpreting linear equations, solving quadratic equations, writing inequalities from a word problem, interpreting a scatter plot and the best fit line, calculating the percent discount for a purchase, determining equivalent quadratic equations, solving a linear equation, writing simultaneous equations from a word problem, writing simultaneous inequalities from a word problem, manipulating data in a table to arrive at the answer, calculating the points of intersection of a line and a circle, finding the length of the chord of a circle given the central angle, etc.
Today we began by reviewing verb tenses and Zach completed an activity where he had to make sure the verb tenses matched in compound sentences. We also reviewed active and passive voice. Next, we read from part 3 of 1984 and discussed how the voice shifts from a reliable to an unreliable narrator and what effect this has on the reader. Lastly, Zach drafted the conclusion to his persuasive essay.
Today, Zach and I reviewed the different question types seen in the reading section. We reviewed the different ways to eliminate answer choices, and then, Zach practiced with a few reading drills using the annotation technique we have gone over multiple times.
We went down to the Chip Trail in Juno Beach and ran/walked the trail and did the strength exercises along the way. We returned to school and did some more core and strength exercises and finished our time with stretching.
