Reading Quiz and /ou/
Lesson Outline
Patrick had a very successful day in reading!!! I am so proud of him. Patrick read Level D "Polly Gets Out" . Patrick began reluctantly and stumbled through the first 2 pages. Then he completely took off. He read the remaining 10 pages almost perfectly. He was fluent and scored 100% on the comprehension quiz! Patrick is successful with sequencing and using transition words to order the events of a story. On a different note, I have noticed that Patrick struggles whenever encountering /ou/. We started working on that sound making words and will continue next week. We ended with the next chapter of Flat Stanley, Flat Again. Patrick made predictions and checked predictions throughout the read aloud. He made supported inferences and drew appropriate conclusions as I was reading as well. Patrick is always thinking and connecting!

Patrick is working hard in math and never relies on the easiest solutions! Lastly, we worked on a few fact family problems. He will have an addition fluency test tomorrow.

Lesson Outline
Today Patrick was not feeling well, so we began our session with our read aloud. I read 2 chapters of Flat Stanley, Flat Again. Patrick and I talked about the story making connections to and predictions about the events. Then Patrick read level C Mash the Potatoes. He was very reluctant to read, but did well once he got started. He kept confusing tomatoes with potatoes, so we had a few laughs with that:) After the story he sequenced the events using transition words with 100% accuracy. Then we discussed how Patrick enjoys cooking and decided we would prepare a Valentine's Day snack at school for the students and teachers. We researched a few snacks and Patrick decided to survey the kids to see what they would like to have. This will also be a writing project for Patrick to complete. Using sequence words he will describe how we prepare the snack.

Patrick showed lots of improvement in the clarity of his chords today. He played very well and his chord changes were very good. We spent some time reading and clapping out quarter note rhythms with rests, which I think improved his understanding and execution of rhythmic strumming.

Verbs and Letter Writing
Lesson Outline
Patrick and I completed his book of verbs. He was very proud of how his book turned out! Then we spent the rest of the time generating, composing, editing and rewriting a letter. You should receive the letter in a few days:) Patrick is full of great ideas and forming thoughts. However, he was very reluctant to actually write. With a lot of encouragement he started writing and was successful. We alternated writing sentences and completed the entire letter. Patrick learned his address. He recited to me as I addressed the envelope:)
