Clay wrote two pretty solid paragraphs, but he completely forgot to use punctuation. He used complex and compound sentences, but without the proper use of commas it totally defeats the purpose. In each case, when I asked him what was wrong with the sentence, he looked at it and could immediately spot the mistake. We're going to work on his proofreading.
Clay wrote two solid paragraphs today. He needs to improve the full development of his ideas, and has a tendency to keep things very simplistic. But his actual writing has come a long way. It's getting much easier for him.
I had Clay write two paragraphs about his brother's visit. He had two solid topic sentences and maintained his topic throughout, but I noticed he's not utilizing the information we've gone over. For example, he's excellent at spotting a run-on sentence on a worksheet, but had at least 4 run-ons in his paragraphs. He's still working on using complex and compound sentences, but is improving in that regard. He needs to focus more when he writes.
Clay did a pretty solid job identifying the different types of sentences, but when I erased the info on the board and asked him to write specific types, he had a lot of trouble. He has difficulty organizing the differences in his mind, and even had trouble remembering the concepts of compound subjects and predicates. We'll work on it more on Friday.
Clay did a great job with the worksheets today. He recognizes run-on sentences pretty quickly, and has little trouble fixing them. He's seems to be very comfortable with the different types of sentences.
I had Clay write two paragraphs about his weekend. He came up with two solid topic sentences and did a pretty good job with his supporting statements. His writing had a nice logical progression to it, he used different types of sentences and he fully developed his ideas. He's come a long way.
I had Clay write 25 sentences about the camp he's going to this weekend. He continues to improve and is mixing up the different types of sentences without me reminding him. I'm very pleased with his progress.
