We will go over the answers and solutions to the practice problems in practice test 4, Module 2. We also discussed several algebra concepts that needed review. The topics were quadratic functions and their graphs. Transformations of functions, and trigonometry.

We compiled the SAT prep. Audrey will take the test on Saturday. Any follow-up (if needed) will be determined after she gets her results.
Today we focused on SAT questions that seek the function of a sentence in a passage, test the skill of note summarization , and measure grammar skills. We parsed the function questions to determine whether the sentence is a claim, a refutation ,or an example. On note summarization questions, again I emphasized the importance of honing in on the question . Does it ask how, why, or for a similarity? Last, we reviewed the use of the colon, and the need for commas for certain types of sentence interrupters or appositive phrases. Audrey is a very astute and quick learner . I expect she will do well on the SAT this Saturday.
We studied and discussed Module #2 of Practice Test #4 which Audrey completed for homework. We spent time addressing questions that request that the student identify the function of a specific sentence and which request that the student identify the structure of the overall passage. Further, we addressed the nuances of certain SAT questions, for example the difference between hypothesizing and substantiating or how a conclusion that is "irreducible" should not be described as a result of a specific or simple cause(since it is irreducible). We further noted some permutations of a note summarization question that atypically requested both a generalization and support for the generalization in the answer.
We will check the work from the assignment. We will review rational expressions and also exponential expressions. We will continue to discuss strategies and approaches to problems that we encounter.

Audrey continues to show improvement in each practice test. She also is open to some review of difficult concepts such as exponents and rational expressions.
We reviewed Module 2 of Practice Test #4 by first reviewing the strategies for answering the note summarization questions, again always focusing more on exactly what the question asks rather than the actual given notes. We then reviewed Audrey's work. I reviewed the use of the colon, and apostrophes. We then worked on analyzing challenging quantitative tables . Last, we studied how to solve some more difficult. vocabulary in context questions that referenced words such as "innocuous , and verisimilitude " as Audrey was not familiar with these terms.
We will review a problem from practice test 2. We will complete the review of practice test 3. We will review any math topics that the practice test identifies as needed.

Lesson Comments
All is going very well. We needed some review of quadratic equations and rational expression. We also reviewed polynomials briefly.
Audrey is doing very well in her SAT practice tests. Today, she requested some further instruction on the note summarizing section given the numerous ways this type of question is posed. We concentrated on how process of elimination greatly enhances the possibilities of deriving the correct answer. After further instruction, we then reviewed Practice Test #3 Mod 2. We discussed the use of commas and addressed use of transition words such as: next, similarly, thus and for example. We further addressed how to analyze a poem to identify the main idea.
