Another great session with Jessica. She scored an A on the test. She easily understood the concepts. As always, she was interested and involved in the lesson.
1) Oral Quiz: Define Paradise and its relationship to Heaven. What is the difference between the two?
2) Jessica's Quotation Journal: Satan as remorseful yet unwilling to repent, Satan as abhorrent of his own fate. Gabriel as God's new right-hand Archangel.
3) Discussion Questions: What is the difference between the Fallen and Archangels? Although they are on different sides of good and evil, are they much different in their personalities? Discuss Milton's simile regarding Satan as a Wolf and Jesus as the Shepherd. What does Satan think when he views Paradise? Do we feel sympathy for his self-imposed Hell? What does Satan say to Adam and Eve? How does he see both creations? What is the difference between Adam and Eve? How does this reveal Milton's belief in patriarchy?
-Chap. 19: Monetary policies:
.Role of the government: purposes
.Role of the government: actions/reserve rates, discount rates,buying/selling securities.
-Impact of the Fed activity:
.lowered rates = more money in the economy
.raised rates= less money
-Unemployment and inflation: Phillips Curve

Lesson Comments
Jessica continues to be outstanding. We easily completed the lesson.
1) Oral Quiz: Where does Book 3 of Paradise Lost transition? How does Milton characterize the relationship between God and the Son?
2)Discuss Jessica's quotations: What is the nature of God? Why do you think Milton goes to such elaborate lengths to describe him here?
3) Discuss Questions for Paradise Lost: Why is Satan, for all intensive purposes, the protagonist/antagonist of this tale? Is Satan a type of Anti-hero? Why/why not? As per tragedy guidelines, tragic heroes are all good, but have one tragic flaw. Does Satan follow this criteria? If so, how? If not, how does he redefine what it means to be a hero? Why, according to Milton, is giving up the Son such a terrible sacrifice? What does death mean to one who has never died?
4) Have Jessica look through the essays that she would like to include in her FAU Honor application.

Lesson Comments
As always, Jessica did a great job in our class discussion.
1)Recap: Where does Paradise Lost Book 2 begin and end? What, according to the progression, do you think will happen in Book 3?
2)Discuss Jessica's Quotation Journal: Moloch and Strength, Satan and the throne of Hell, Sin and Death as the Product of Satan's treachery.
3)Discussion Questions: How does Satan invert the miserable position of the demon's in hell? What does he say to make their "Fall" appear better than it actually is? Can Satan escape the product of his treachery (i.e if Satan engendered civil disobedience, can he escape a coup from his own legion of fallen angels?). Why, if Belial believes that God is omniscient, all-knowing, and all-powerful, does he not admit defeat and repent? Why are the demons afraid of Chaos?
