We reviewed the rules of grammar (same as the SAT), and went over how the test is different. We talked about the importance of the process of elimination, and how to spot the issue being tested. Preston has a solid understanding of the rules of grammar, but could improve, which would be a huge help in his pacing on this section.
We worked through Section 6 of Practice Test 1 and resolved issues with the problems. We discussed how the "wordier" problems tended to be "time burners' and suggested avoiding them unless there was extra time available as part of our strategy.

Preston worked hard. His problem-solving speed--or lack thereof--is his main issue. He seems to be improving as his confidence improves.
We continued working on the reading comprehension today, and I saw a marked improvement from yesterday. Preston was read much more meticulously, and focused on the wording of the answers, which in turned resulted in getting more correct. He needs to practice more between now and the test.
We went over the various strategies for the vocabulary and reading comprehension questions. Preston is a solid reader, but needs to focus on every word in the answers as they are quite literal. He's getting much better at using process of elimination, and we'll continue to work on it tomorrow.
We continued working on the grammar section today. We went through the three different types of questions and discussed strategies for how to approach each. Preston needs to focus on learning the rules better. He answers too many based on sound or feel, which will get him in trouble with the SAT. The better he knows the rules, but better he will be able to spot the issues.
We discussed Math SAT I parameters and moved on to Section Two (Math) of Practice Test One in the Princeton Review text. After taking the test section, we discussed problem areas encountered.

Preston is well-motivated, but is somewhat discouraged by the strict timelines on the SAT. I'll endeavor, through practice test-taking, to help him overcome that phobia.
We completed going over the rules of grammar for the tests and started working on some of the practice drills. Preston understands the rules pretty well, but he needs to work on how to apply them. He should improve with practice.
