Arianna continued to work on adding suffixes to base words and spelling them correctly. She also practiced using new vocabulary in context. We continued our reading of Harry Potter, chapter 7, with a focus on identifying clues that may foreshadow future events. Arianna is getting quite good at pointing out details that the author places strategically in the story.
Arianna and I continued her prior lesson on finding the factors of products. Then, we expanded that knowledge to knowing how many factors a number has in order to tell if a number is prime or composite. We printed out a prime numbers reference chart and Arianna completed the lesson's practice problems, writing whether numbers were prime or composite and their factors.
The next unit will be on different careers in biology. We will first learn about being an animal behaviorist, with Arianna completing a research project on two different animals to define, observe, and compare their behaviors while we learn about the job of behaviorist. She has selected the red fox and coral snake as her two species.
Arianna started her review lessons on Chapter 7 – “South Central Region”. She completed the review sheet and started to work on the textbook review, pages 252 - 253 review questions.
Arianna practiced using suffixes in words and identifying their meanings. We practiced identifying the author’s opinion and point of view in sample passages. She gave me a brief summary of chapter 5 and then we read chapter 6 of Harry Potter. At the end of the chapter, Arianna made her own predictions about how the characters would act their way out of their current dilemma. We will check those predictions tomorrow.
Arianna and I took turns reading aloud. She discovered several words that she didn't know. We defined those words using context clues and the dictionary when needed. Arianna does quite well reading the series.
Arianna decided she was open to learning some yoga today! I used some of my Kidding Around Yoga music to teach her Sun Salutations and other animal-related poses. We finished up the hour with some Hullabaloo and Yeti in the Spaghetti.
Arianna was given the second layout for her canvas painting which consisted of a heart and the word Ari D. We flip the layout over, applied graphite, applied the layout to the canvas, and traced it to create a copy onto the canvas. Arianna focused on painting the lettering as I worked on the heart.
This afternoon, Arianna celebrated Ms. Judie's birthday and Valentine's Day with cake and a small party. Then, we spent time looking for "perfect" sticks outside in order to make more Harry Potter wands. Arianna was able to paint 6 more wands and sprayed the already completed wands with a shiny clear coat.
