Hour 1:
Hunter will be given a string art template that will be applied to a .5" thick board. Hunter will extend certain points of the template from 1" to 3". By doing this operation this will create a new design but based on the same pattern.
Hour 2:
Hunter will number all of the new points (1 to 80) that he has created. He will be brought outside where he will place nails in all the points that he created. Hunter will use a blue or a black string and complete the first of two patterns for the string art project.
Hunter will complete his webpage's home page by adding in header images, links, site description, and footer.

Hunter completed the assignment on Multiplying and Dividing Rational Expressions. Overall, he understands how to simplify them. I sometimes have to remind him how to approach the factoring. We worked outside the rest of the time on a factoring match-up game, and then I introduced Inverse Variation to him.
Today we talked about some areas of home maintenance that every homeowner should be concerned about. Outdoor chalking, cracks in bricks, roof flashing, mildew, garbage disposal, A/C and furnace filters, hot water heater, ceramic tile grout, smoke detectors, faucet aerators and more. Great session.
Hunter and I continued working on the concept of multiplying and dividing rational numbers. He is fairly adept at factoring the binomials and trinomials that make up the rational numbers. Once he gets the factoring complete, he can cancel and reduce like terms. He does better when we work together on the exercises.
Hunter and I watched the 1939 Oscar-nominated black and white movie "Of Mice and Men" today. It was a great culminating activity after reading the book. Hunter and I stopped to analyze and discuss - the purposeful title related to the expression "..the best laid plans of mice and men." We also discussed how the movie was very true to the book, made a larger issue of the female, and made the themes of loneliness, responsibility, friendship, and commitment more meaningful. During our second hour, Hunter continued with his writing assignment about being held back a year in school. He worked on the introductory paragraph, an attention-grabbing thesis statement, and the conclusion.
Hunter finished reading "Of Mice and Men!" He can say that he has read a classic. Afterwards we discussed and answered some guiding questions. We read from "Readings on Of Mice and Men" and discussed literary anlaysis and criticism of this work. We read "Christian Symbolism in Of Mice and Men" by Lee Dacus. Hunter could relate and agreed with the author's comparisons and discussion of symbolism - the mouse as symbol, the deed of love. We discussed themes of friendship, responsibility, loneliness and independence. Afterwards, we returned to Hunter's essay-in-progress. He was writing a persuasive essay about holding students back a grade level. He has difficulty pre-writing, organizing his writing and structuring his thoughts before going the the final written draft. We discussed the plan for Friday. We will devote it to writing (in response to prompts about "Of Mice and Men" )and grammar and Hunter and I will watch the movie starting tomorrow.
Today, Hunter learns not only how drywall is made, but how the patching and seams are completed. He further learns how to properly "toenail". Lastly, he learns how it is possible for man only 5' 6" tall to patch an 8' ceiling without a ladder!! Great session.
