Today was Gracyn's final day of the school year. I emphasized how important it is for her to keep up with her math skills over the summer. I challenged her to be able to complete 100 basic addition problems within 5 minutes. She was given the timed worksheets before she left for New York and has enough copies to practice 2-3 times a week. We also discussed our summer plans and watched a few videos on telling time and money.
Today, Gracyn took the unit assessment on geometry and fraction concepts. This covered 3-dimensional shapes and their names, 2-dimensional shapes and their names, recognizing shapes from their attributes, angles, sides, vertices, faces, lines of symmetry, and fractional parts of objects. Gracyn understood all of the concepts and answered all of the questions correctly.
In this last lesson on Economics, Gracyn and I played monopoly online. She is quite the business-minded girl and I have no doubts about her success in business! I am grateful we were able to end the lesson with a prayer for her new endeavor at Jupiter Christian. She was a joy to be with.
Today was our last class together and we went over briefly about the material covered in class during the past school year. Also she was telling me how excited she is about going to her new school. In addition, we watched the Beauty and the Beast in Spanish and English. It was a pleasure to have Gracyn as student.
In our last session together, I wanted Gracyn to see how much she has grown as a reader this year. We went back to level E on Raz to see what she was reading when she began first grade. We also looked ahead to levels L and M to see what some of the upcoming challenges will be. Gracyn and I read "The Best Seat in Second Grade" for guided reading, using context and visual cues to determine unknown words. It has been a pleasure and a joy to teach Gracyn this year! I wish her much success and happiness at her new school.
