Gracyn and I began by reviewing the upcoming unit 7 ideas and concepts to prepare for Monday. Together, we played a dice game called Tenzi. To play this game, we each got 10 dice that we rolled simultaneously. As we rolled, we had to inspect our hands and determine which number we would shoot for. Then, rapidly, we continued to roll the remaining dice until they all displayed the same number. Finally, Gracyn chose a printable ornament that she colored to place on the school's Christmas tree.
Gracyn spent the first half of class playing hangman with words from her word wall in her classroom. The second half of class was a simplified version of Monopoly that still required her to do a little bit of math with the money.
Gracyn and I spent a lot of time today using bubbles, she loved it! We used bubbles to keep balance on the beam, bubbles to dance and do floor skills with and just bubbles all around. We also spent some time stretching and working on her cartwheels on the beam. Her back walkover is coming along and she was very excited to show me her progress. She's doing very well!

Science Enrichment:
The Seahorse -
Gracyn selected the seahorse to color today. She used orange as her primary color and then used other colors to bring shadows to her picture. We examined several types of seahorses and discussed how the male is the one that carries the young in it’s pouch, until they are born to the sea. She also learned that there are several different varieties and they can have very different appearances. We also talked about the snorkel trail that runs under the Blue Heron Bridge.
We completed chapter 3 of "Beezus and Ramona" as our read-aloud, making and confirming predictions as we read. Gracyn wrote the second page of her book and illustrated the first page. She's very determined to be accurate with her drawings, except when it comes to eye color...all must be blue! We read a poem titled "Where's the Dessert?" and completed a rhyming activity along with a visualization task.
We began our lesson with "Jingle Bells" which Gracyn is starting to memorize. We then began "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" in duet form. Next we played "Name That Tune" with Christmas Songs. Also today, we discussed note values, and reviewed older pieces in order to maintain and build a repertoire and reinforce learned concepts.
Gracyn started a new unit on living and non living things today. We read the first lesson in her science book and discussed the characteristics of both living and non living things. She did an activity where she sorted different pictures into both categories. We also discussed day 10 of our chick embryo and looked at pictures of what our chicks look like inside the egg today.
