Adding Doubles, Addition of 2's, Time
Lesson Outline
Today Gracyn completed a whole worksheet on the subject of time. She had to look at a chart and find the time that different movies started and the time lapse between them. She then started to work on a time chart of "The day in the life of my doll". She had to decided how long it would take to complete certain tasks with her doll. She had fun with this. She then completed a worksheet on the addition of numbers to 2. She knows these very well. She did a Sudoku puzzle as well.

Today Gracyn and I skyped from our houses! She thought it was so silly! She started off her day writing her spelling words once each. Then we completed her morning work together. In writing she wrote about what she loves to do at the beach. Her sentence was "At the beach I love to ride the waves. It is so much fun." Next we read a poem about Memorial Day and she colored a picture of the American Flag. In reading she read two level E stories on Raz Kids. In science we watched a Magic School Bus video on the digestive system. It was very interesting!

Biography - George Washington
Lesson Outline
Today we read a biography about "George Washington" by Wil Mara. We went through his birth, his success as a General, his election and accomplishments, and finally his retirement to Mount Vernon. We looked at the pictures and captions, using these text features to expand on the text. We also looked through Washington’s timeline and discussed how timelines capture important events in a person’s life.

Lesson 15-6 and Test / Lesson 16-2
Lesson Outline
We started off math with some puzzles in Gracyn's "Sudoku for Kids" book. We completed puzzles two and three, both of which are 4 by 4 puzzles. Gracyn is really getting the hang of how to solve these logic puzzles! We continued work on Topic 15 by completing Enrichment 15-6, page 60 in her Envision coursework. She did a great job reading the schedule to see what times events and activities took place. She continues to need some help with determining how long events took (half hour or an hour). She completed the multiple choice test for Topic 15, scoring a 100%. We looked into Topic 16-2, by working on pages 485-486 in her large Envision text. This lesson was on "Doubles Plus One". We practiced adding doubles and then adding a doubles plus one number in various tasks (for example 8 + 8 = 16, and 8 + 9 = 17). I showed Gracyn how when one of the addends goes up by one, the sum just goes up by one. We continued examining even and odd numbers through watching a Brain Pop Jr. learning video on "Even and Odd Numbers". Annie and Moby walked us through dividing items evenly (making it “fair” for two people), skip counting on the number line and seeing the pattern of how the numbers end (1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 0, 2, 4, 6, 8), and how we use the number in the ones place to make the determination. We then worked through the problems on the Easy and Hard follow-up quizzes. Additionally, we read "If You Were an Odd Number" by Marcie Aboff. This colorful book walked us through various examples of where odd numbers are found, that when they are added together they make an even number, and odd numbers are not easily divisible. Also, we saw that numbers ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 are odd. We talked about things in Gracyn’s immediate environment to determine if they were odd or even (for example, the ages of her and her siblings).
