Unit 8 The Human Body Chapter 35 Immune System and Disease
Lesson Outline
35.2 Infectious Disease – We learned that when you cut yourself a pathogen may be on your skin or on whatever object cut you. Your body responds by increasing blood flow to the area to help the body attack invading pathogens by bringing phagocytes to the area and they engulf and destroy bacteria and damaged cells. We determined that the part of the inflammatory response that leads to redness around the wounded area, is the increased blood flow.
Assignment: Complete P. 1030 Assessments 35.1 Infectious Diseases and 35.2 Defenses Against Infection.
Unit 8 The Human Body Chapter 35 Immune System and Disease
Lesson Outline
35.2 Infectious Disease – We learned where pathogens come from and the body’s defenses against them. We discovered the function of the immune system’s specific defenses. We made a list of the body’s specific defenses against pathogens. We discovered that phagocytes which are active in the inflammatory response, develop from stem cells in bone marrow.
Assignment: Work on Packet A 35.2 Infectious Disease.
Unit 8 The Human Body Chapter 35 Immune System and Disease
Lesson Outline
35.2 Infectious Disease – We learned that the human body is a complex system. The coordinated functions of its many structures support life processes that maintain homeostasis. We learned how the human body defends against pathogens. We defined new vocabulary: inflammatory response, histamine, interferon, immune response, antigen, antibody, humoral immunity, and cell-medicated immunity.
Assignment: Work on Packet A 35.2 Infectious Disease.
Unit 8 The Human Body Chapter 35 Immune System and Disease
Honors Biology
Lesson Outline
35.1 Infectious Disease – We investigated the technologies that help keep healthcare providers protected against the spread of bloodborne pathogens. We investigated the causes of infectious diseases and how the diseases spread.
Assignment: Complete Packet A 35.1 Infectious Disease.
Unit 8 The Human Body Chapter 35 Immune System and Disease
Lesson Outline
35.1 Infectious Disease – We learned why Koch’s postulates played an important role in the development of modern medicine. They provided researchers a method to follow when identifying a pathogen that causes a specific disease.
Assignment: Work on Packet A.
