Welcome Back -
Will and I shared our vacation stories. Will had a lot to show me from his trip to Paris. We examined some of this photographs, and reviewed how to edit his collection. We the discussed what “ Physics” really means. Just as Biology is the study of life, and chemistry is the study of matter, Physics is the study of the physical world, and how it works. Will called it the ‘verb’ of science. We talked about how this will be expressed in our class; the types and sources of energy, the way light, heat, and sound travel, and the way machines work. Will was given the first physical science LAW in the conservation of Energy law. Homework: edit his photographs before his photography class on Friday.
Assignment
Homework: edit his photographs before his photography class on Friday.
We worked on her electromagnetic wave project creating a sales brochure for each portion of the spectrum. She put the final touches on microwaves, radio waves, and ultraviolet waves for her PowerPoint presentation.
We worked on Kelly's Light Project including answering 1. What is the electromagnetic spectrum? 2. How are electromagnetic waves formed? 3. How are electromagnetic waves different from mechanical waves? 4. What are the names of the two men who established the Electromagnetic Wave Theory? and 5. List the kinds of waves that make the spectrum in order.
We reveiwed concepts for her test including what is thermal energy, what are the 1st and 2nd Laws of Thermodynamics, what is the relationship between kinetic energy and thermal energy, what is temperature, how do refrigerators and air conditioners work, how does a car engine use chemical and thermal energy to produce mechanical energy, etc.
