Wehad two sessions today. We started class by reviewing the concepts of combining like terms. I gave PJ a few warm up problems. Then he helped me set up for the Valentine's celebration.
I reviewed the three trigonometric ratios corresponding to sin, cos, and tan. I asked Matthew to calculate the values of the trigonometric functions for different angles of right triangles.
I also asked him to calculate the angles from different side lengths and trigonometric functions. There was no assignment.

Matthew was able to find missing angles and sides of right triangles using the various functions.
We covered the exam review evaluating algebraic expressions, set theory - intersection and union of two sets, simplifying algebraic expressions, evaluating irrational expressions, using the product rule and quotient rule to simplify irrational expressions, adding and subtracting irrational expressions and simplifying, rationalizing the denominator of an irrational expression, evaluating expressions with fractional exponents, adding and subtracting polynomials, finding the product of two binomials, factoring a second degree trinomial, factoring the difference of two squares, adding and subtracting rational expressions.
We reviewed for Kai's Math test tomorrow which is based on Lessons 4 and 5 in his math lessons. We focused on multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers, and division with decimals, the areas in which Kai felt he needed the most support. Today, we Skyped successfully on Monday, as he will be unable to meet Thursday. It worked out well, as he has exams tomorrow. Kai said he feels confident about the test. We went over all of the major parts and rules for the equations. Also, Kai completed practice for homework. We went over it. He had 95% of it correct! Good job!
I was instructed to administer the math section of the standardized test to Ben. He grudgingly started to take it but found many interruptions to stall progress. By the end of the period, he had finished only a small fraction of the problems he needed to do.

I'm concerned that Ben will not be able to finish the test this week even though he is expected to be done by Friday.
