Today we went over the political and social shifts of the late 80s and 90s because that was one section we were not able to cover in our class time. Next, Zach did a short practice test to help prepare for his exam on Friday.
Zach had asked to do a practice Document Based Question. He had to analyze seven interrelated primary documents and craft an essay with a thesis and supporting points based on the question. His practice question involved comparing and contrasting imperialist and anti-imperialist opinions during the Spanish-American War.

Lesson Comments
Zach was extremely negative about the test today, and spent much of our hour talking about how he is just not good at writing essays or taking tests, and how much he hates it. It seems like test-anxiety and self-sabotage to me. I helped him formulate some ideas and discussed the primary documents with him, but it was really hard to get him to actually work. He did write about two paragraphs total and refused to do the outline like he has done many times in the past. It was very frustrating. I kept encouraging him and redirecting him back, but he seemed intent on avoiding the practice essay (despite the fact he had asked to practice it!).
Today Zach wrote his DBA reflection and submitted it. Then he completed the long essay exam for module 8, writing about the sociopolitical influences of the Cold War and Red Scare. Zach first outlined his essay, wrote a first draft, and then revised it.
Today we went over LBJ's Great Society policies and programs, the upswing in conservatism, election of Nixon, Civil Uprisings, and protests against the Vietnam war, as well as resistance to talks about entering Cambodia. We discussed the policy of containment, and the decline of the Cold War. Zach completed a short response to the question of Next, Zach and I reviewed the civil rights cases of the Warren Supreme Court, including Gideon V Wainwright, Mapp v Ohio, University of California v Bakke, Griswold v Connecticut, Miranda v Arizona, etc. Zach then completed a short quiz. Lastly, Zach took a short practice test to prepare for the upcoming AP test, we went over the AP test format, and then we went over the module in preparation for his DBA.
Today we went over the major milestones, leaders, organizations, developments, and setbacks during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Zach completed an essay outline and analysis assignment about violent resistance to the movement. Next, we discussed the Latin American, Women's, and Asian American movements for equal rights. Zach then completed a short quiz.
