The Federalists prevailed over the Anti-Federalists at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 - hence, the Constitution created government authority and a political system shared by national and local governments. In America's federal system, state governments have a specially protected existence and the authority to make final decisions over many government activities. This is called federalism. We began to discuss examples of state's rights and we will continue this conversation in our next class - and actually, throughout the semester.
In this activity, Katya solved systems of three unknowns using the substitution method. This is the only method we are going to use on systems of three.
We discussed the chapters that Katya had read for homework. We also discussed the questions that she had answered. We finished reading the novel. We discussed the ending of the book. We then discussed what the final assessment would be for the novel. We agreed that Katya would write a literary analysis. I presented 20 possible paper topics. Katya narrowed the choices to one that she liked. We talked about how she would approach the topic. She will compose a thesis and an introduction for homework.
We reviewed the actual Constitution in its original form and wording, going through all 7 Articles and the first 10 amendments, known as the Bill of Rights. We will review the remaining 17 amendments in a future class.
