Lesson Comments
Used the writing assignment to have Vlad practice proof-reading his work. We actually went through four drafts. With each draft, Vlad was able to spot more errors that needed to be corrected -- errors in punctuation (commas, periods, semi-colons) capitalization, spelling, wording, phrasing, and spacing. Vlad unfamiliar with the format of a business letter, so I taught him the format. Emphasized the importance of a letter being error-free and the need for any written work to be proof-read several times to remove errors. We'll see if he takes the lesson to heart.

Frankenstein, Shelley and Dead Girls Detective
Lesson Outline
Alexa watched a short video and we discussed the surprise beginning and the narrative elements used in Mary Shelley's, Frankenstein. She learned "epistolary narrative" (based on letters) "framed narrative" (story within a story) and the circumstances around the creation of the story when the four friends were stuck in a storm. We discussed the monster's true identity and its need for human companionship, as well as the character and development of Dr. Frankenstein. We concluded by discussing some of the strategies used in the creative writing in Dead Girls Detective Agency such as the foreshadowing that was much too obvious to hold. Alexa said we must watch for a twist.

The plan with this is to learn more of the structure, strategies, and details of creative writing, and to write a Reader Response paper at the conclusion. Lesson Comments
Vlad still showing a propensity to get pulled into details in an article without checking how dated the article is, how good the author's credentials are, how biased the article might be. When he should be focused on the major organizational issues of the research paper, Vlad wants to go 90 mph in a rush to final articles. He then skims articles and loses sight of what he is looking for. He likes to check the pedal on a rose when he should be planning the garden.
