Lesson Outline
Kaitlin began a study of the book "The Great Gatsby," by F. Scott Fitzgerald. She explored vocabulary words and their definitions for chapter 1. She has to read and answer questions over Chapter 1 by Tuesday, September 16th. We delved into the short story "The Book of the Dead" by Edwidge Danticat, a Haitian author. This is a very thought-provoking story which has immense impact on the characters.

Lesson Outline
We explored the Table of Contents for her Language Arts book, looking at the different topics we will cover this year. The first unit deals with a very relevant topic-Conflict and Connection. It asks the question: How can we bridge the divide when we disagree with someone? She has a spelling test tomorrow.
Discuss the events of 09/11/2021 and how they affected the nation and the world. Write a three-paragraph essay from the point-of-view of a survivor due to the fact that they stopped to get band-aids because their feet had blisters thus making them late for work and avoiding the catastrophe.
Kaitlin read and discussed the Wordly Wise words from Book 10 Lesson 4. She read and discussed the story "A Most Valuable Person." She answered written comprehension questions pertaining to the story. She wrote down the definitions for this week's words in her notebook.
