As part of our unit on Great Expectations includes a research paper on an aspect of Victorian life as illustrated in the novel, today we discussed Joshua's research progress and I provided detailed instruction on the MLA format, specifically how to generate an academically acceptable "Works Cited " page. I distributed material on proper format and we studied how to cite a book, and a web page and how to cite a quote within the text using the MLA format. I discussed the academic definition of plagiarism noting how even a paraphrase should be attributed to the author of the resource.For homework, I assigned preparation of the Works Cited page and suggested Joshua bring to class his research materials so that we can make sure they are useful for the project.
