I worked with Rory on SAT math problems using a current study guide.
We did various multiple choice problems covering topics such as algebraic manipulation of formulas. We also did word problems, function comparisons, mixture problems, and logic puzzles. I guided her to find the correct answers as well as to advise her on strategies and techniques for taking the exam. There was an assignment.

Julia and I worked together to solve a combination of word problems and algebraic expression problems. She was very successful in solving complex problems but shows difficulty setting up and solving equations. There was no assignment.

We covered pp. 24 & 25 today. I went through several examples of multiplying positive and negative numbers, and Craig was able to identify the rule: When you multiply numbers with the same signs, your answer is positive. When they have different signs, the answer is negative. We discussed that addition and subtraction are opposite operations, as are multiplication and division. This helped him in seeing how to solve a multiplication problem with a variable by dividing. One of the problems involved ordering fractions. I taught Craig that the easiest way to do this is to change the fractions to decimals on his calculator by dividing the numerator by the denominator. Then order the decimals. I also took time today to talk to Craig about the importance of asking questions and stopping me when he doesn't understand. :)

Craig reviewed order of operations in preparation for his SSAT. He also practiced operations with positive and negative integers.
