We completed the Final Project Part 2 including writing a professional memo analyzing accounting components from Proctor and Gamble's Corporate Annual Report. We followed up via email to ensure formatting was correct.
Franchessca will take the SAT tomorrow. We have worked diligently on the writing/grammar section that before was her weakest score. In this final preparation class, we reviewed vocabulary and moved to the most likely academic words in the lists that we did not have sufficient time to study closely. Franchessca then completed all practice portions for this section of the SAT.
This lesson was a lighter vocabulary review on the newer lists of SAT academic words. Franchessa completed the writing/grammar of part 4 of Barron's textbook and got every single answer correct. There has been marked progress since our first session. We have one more class before she takes the SAT again on November 7. I am confident that her score in this area "writing/grammar" will be high.
Franchessca had a long "hard-core" vocabulary session for half an hour in this class - drilling the academic words most likely to be in the writing/grammar and reading portions of the SAT. We reviewed selected words beginning in list one and ending at list 18. After this, Franchessa completed the practice test for writing/grammar in the third section of the SAT prep Barron's book.
On this regularly scheduled Saturday class, Franchessca took another vocabulary test. It is not multiple choice and there is no word bank. She either knows the word or not -- examples are accepted. She has completed 13 lists and will continue to push for more words before the November 7 SAT sitting. Franchessca is making great progress on scoring due to a better understanding of how the questions are formed, what the test is looking for, and more clarity in the rules of grammar and punctuation.
Franchessca made up last Friday's class on Sunday, 10-25. She had activities that prevented Friday. I tested her on SAT vocabulary lists up to 14. Any missed words are written in her notebook for further deliberation. We then completed most of the practice test in the third test area (writing and grammar portion). Lastly, we discussed and looked at punctuation. I will be giving her a test on colon usage next class.
Franchessca took a hefty vocabulary test on the first 9 lists of SAT high-level academic words. Those missed on earlier tests are in her notebook and she has now mastered a few of the really difficult ones, being careful to know when one word has several different meanings. We completed the grammar/writing portion of practice test 2,and will move to the third one next week. She has two additional vocabulary lists to learn this week.
