We went over the concepts involving Properties of Logs, graphing a basic logarithmic function, solving an equation with different bases, the Common Log and the Natural Log, and the Change of Base formula.
Since there was so much information, we went through some of it quickly just so she can get a better idea of it.
We went through Section 5.4, Dividing Polynomials, and used long division of polynomials and synthetic division to divide and factor polynomials of higher degree. The Remainder Theorem was also used for some examples to find factors.
Section 5.3, solving polynomial equations using multiple methods (factoring: trial and error, sum and difference of cubes, difference of squares, factor by grouping). If it didn't factor using the methods so far, then we use the graphing calculator to look for the x-intercepts.
Clauses Activity, Final Revision of Essay, "Us & Them"
Lesson Outline
Today we began with a sentence writing activity where Franchessca had to display her understanding of the different types of subordinate clauses. Next, Franchessca completed the final revision of her "Most Dangerous Game" essay. We then discussed essay writing in general, including the different types of nonfiction essays. We read "Us & Them" by David Sedaris and analyzed it, and Franchessca completed our session by responding to reading analysis questions for both "Us & Them" and our last short story, "Blues Ain't No Mocking Bird." On Friday, Franchessca will have a quiz on subordinate clauses.
