To expose Chris to different genres/authors, we had a book tasting today. I gave a synopsis of several young adult novels and we read the first chapter of The Outsiders. Book tastings can help students grow their love of reading and expose them to new worlds.
To expose PJ to different genres/authors, we had a book tasting today. I gave a synopsis of several young adult novels and we read the first chapter of The Outsiders. Book tastings can help students grow their love of reading and expose them to new worlds.
We watched the Twilight Zone episode of "Time Enough At Last" and compared it with the short story of the same name. Ben identified the themes of the stories, comparing and contrasting how the character was portrayed in each as well as how conflict was introduced in the story. We also discussed how the differences impacted the story.
As a prereading exercise, PJ listed knowledge that animals might teach you about human life. We then read a story about a pet fox who takes a mysterious and disturbing drive with his boy and the boy’s father. PJ responded to reading comprehension questions after he read.
We completed an anticipation guide for the next chapter of "Monster". We then read the chapter, taking turns with the characters, as the story is set up as a screenplay.
