As a prereading strategy for Bradbury's "Dark They Were, and Golden Eyed", we researched facts about Mars. We also discussed the elements of science fiction. Then we began reading the story, pausing to discuss key points.
We finished reading the article about the Rover landing on Mars. Chris also wrote a review for "One Love", which we both separately saw over the weekend. Then, Chris read over his review, editing for grammatical errors.
PJ watched a video about following your dreams as well as one about facing your fears. Then he responded to questions about the video, using complete sentences, remembering to use a comma after and introductory phrase.
We reviewed parts of a sentence and sentence order in a paragraph. Chris also differentiated between a phrase and a clause, identifying bold words in a sentence.
PJ learned about how to write a paragraph for a process, using signal words to transition between steps. He also crafted topic sentences for process paragraphs. Then he wrote his own process paragraph.
