The plan for today’s session was to continue the open-ended questions from the narrative passage Elijah read last week. Next, Elijah was to continue practicing his multiplication facts and working on various word problems centering on volume. This was my last scheduled session with Elijah. I wish him all the best as he moves on to a new community and school. Elijah is a wonderful boy who will find academic success with continued practice and support.

Elijah's grandmother had confirmed this time with Judie, however he did not show up for the session.
So happy to hear that Elijah did so well on his school assessments, and that he will be moving up to the fourth grade. We are so proud of him! In today's session, we reviewed the multiplication tables to see where he needed to practice over the summer. He is still having some trouble with the 7,8, & 9 tables. He is still showing signs of counting when he is trying to figure out the answers, which means these are not completely committed to memory. Elijah should continue to practice over the summer and work towards being able to respond automatically. Next, Elijah read a short narrative passage and began working on some open-ended questions. We will complete this task next week. He was very focused today and did a wonderful job!
Elijah did a final review for the FSA mathematics test that starts tomorrow. He reviewed representation of patterns and relationships, estimating to the thousands to solve problems, measurement, and the properties of multiplication and division. He also did some problems involving lines of symmetry and finding the perimeter of geometric shapes. Elijah did a great job on these practice problems. He should do well!

Elijah was over 20 minutes late for this session. He reported that he was playing at a friends house before coming, and that they had to drop a friend off.
Today, we continued our review of FSA Mathematics operations and problems. Elijah began the session with the adaptive mathematics program focusing on place value and number sense. He then reviewed FSA practice mathematics cards focusing on analyzing patterns and relationships, comparing and classifying two dimensional shapes, finding perimeters, identifying values on a number line and reading bar graphs. He did a great job on the practice questions today! We discussed test taking strategies and the need to thoroughly read and understand the question before trying to determine the correct answer. Elijah has worked hard and I am sure he will do a great job!
It was great to hear that Elijah felt so good about the FSA Reading Assessment. He felt he did really well and was ready to focus on Mathematics. We began today's session with practice on the Adaptive Math program that focused on rounding and geometry. Next, we reviewed order of operations, inverse operations, lines of symmetry, analyzing graphs and pictographs, and identifying numbers on a line graph. Elijah did very well and was very animated during our session today.
Elijah began today's session with a Math review. He practiced reading graphs, identifying equivalent equations, and rounding to the nearest 100s. All the problems he solved were aligned to state standards and covered important concepts he will find on the assessment. Next, he practiced close reading of informational text. He read passages and identified main ideas and key details citing text evidence to support his answers. Elijah was very attentive and worked hard this session.
Elijah began the session with a math review practice sheet sent from his teacher. These were review questions of basic computational problems. Next, he did additional review with FSA mathematics flash cards of the new generation state standards based word problems, model multiplication and division problems, tables, bar graphs and pictographs. Elijah ended the session by reading and finding text evidence in paired passages. He did a good job today and worked hard on solving some complex problems.
We began today's session with a review of volume and estimation of liquid volume. Elijah needed support understanding what was being asked in the questions. He had difficulty estimating volume based on a given measurement. He also seemed quite tired which may have had an impact on him. Next, he read an article titled, "The Yin and Yang of Basketball". This article was about the beginnings of the game of basketball. We discussed questions that involved finding text evidence to support his answer. He did well locating the evidence in the passage to support his answers.
The mathematics portion of this lesson was going to be on multiplication and volume. In addition, a lesson on text features was planned for the reading portion.

The student was absent. We did not find out he was not coming until shortly before the scheduled session.
Elijah began today's session with practice on his multiplication tables. He practiced the 6,7,8 and 9 tables today. He needs to continue this practice paying special attention to the following computations: 7X8, 7X9, 8X4, 8X7,8X8, 9X4, 9X7, 9X8. Next, we did some ELA practice for the FSA. He read 4 passages on the 3rd grade level on an online practice site. Elijah was distracted with the computer based assessment. He needed encouragement to focus and stop fiddling with the adjustments and computer settings. He was able to accurately respond to the questions and demonstrated good understanding, however, on a timed test he will need to be careful about getting right to work without someone redirecting him.
