We reviewed vocabulary words; Ayden did not complete his homework, so together, we added the five new words from yesterday. Ayden typed the sentence from the book as well as the definition. To conclude, we co-read several chapters of the novel.

Ayden is really enjoying the film adaptation of the book. He asked if he could watch over the weekend! Of course, I agreed so that we won't take any more class time watching a movie. Next week he will write the essay in class, and I will assess him on vocabulary.
Ayden was quite tired after two hours of Hebrew, so we began the session with a brief episode of the book's mini-series adaptation, Looking for Alaska. It is instructive to see how the director made different choices to build a sense of suspense. Since we know the outcome from our reading (the character of Alaska will die), the foreshadowing was more obvious. Next, we co-read two chapters of the novel. The main characters are coping with their friend's death, trying to determine if it was an accident or a suicide. The material is challenging, but Ayden is handling it well.
It was great to see Ayden back on my screen after his ski vacation. After catching up, we jumped back into the novel. Looking for Alaska. The character, Alaska, has died tragically, and the remaining characters are dealing with the aftermath. Ayden read well and is processing the difficult subject matter appropriately.
