Andrew chose an article online to read and discuss. The purpose of this lesson is to increase comprehension as well as the ability to summarize what was read.
We read an article today to assess reading comprehension and fluency. We also discussed prereading strategies that could be done as one approaches informational text.
Andrew and I looked at student examples of personal narratives as mentor texts. He identified what the students did well in their writing. We delved deeper into what makes a good narrative. He continued to brainstorm ideas for his writing.
Jackson chose quotes from the first chapter that demonstrated each character's personality. He also took a first-chapter quiz and received an A, indicating that he has a good grasp of the story so far.
