This afternoon, Santino and I reviewed the purpose and function of different utensils when eating. He opted to use a spoon with which to eat his pureed lunch, and ate independently after being prompted to request his meal in a complete sentence. He as yet requires a prompt to add the word 'please' at the end of requests. Santino also ate 2 packets of Fruit Loops cereal, and drank from the water fountain outdoors entirely independently. He appeared satiated by his meal and snack, refused additional food options, and remained in a contented and amicable mood for the duration of our session.
We continue to address improving Santino's functional communication skills and broadening his verbal repertoire. We targeted following directives when given two-step directions or object function, and answering questions using expanded verbal responses. I have been gradually fading multimodal cues when Santino answers questions, makes requests, and/or comments. Santino enjoyed the stimulation afforded him when he was introduced to a variety of musical instruments on this fun Friday. He followed the beat and tempo modeled after expectations were demonstrated. Santino requested to go outside and, once there, he expended energy and demonstrated his coordination skills using the various equipment on which he played.
Santino read from the Flyleaf collection and attempted to answer comprehension questions. He sorted nouns, verbs, and adjectives. he practiced writing his name. We worked on adding and subtracting up tp 20.
