Teresa requested that I make sure Cabo does his homework, and consequently, we spent most of the session on that area . He did get it done. However, , Cabo continues to resist doing the work ,voices objections to doing homework , and procrastinates .
Cabo completed the definition portion of his science homework and also completed the assigned reading for Language Arts. As Cabo will be in writing answering questions on the reading in tomorrow's Language Arts class, I placed the questions on the board, and recommended Cabo begin working on them .We discussed the questions and Cabo indicated he would be prepared to complete written responses in class tomorrow.

Cabo was a bit distracted and unfocused today and therefore did not complete as much of his homework as he could have. However, he did begin his English assignment but not his science work.
This was my first study hall with Cabo. I helped him write down all his homework in one place, and talked about how he was going to get a planner (Judie said planners have been ordered for everyone!). I also recommend that Cabo gets a separate 3 ring binder for each class he is taking. Dividers would be helpful. Cabo then chose to read his history text about the French Revolution, and after that he started reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I encouraged him to ask me questions as needed, and informed him that I will be happy to assist him on any assignments or content he may struggle with in the future, for example in Algebra or Spanish. Cabo stayed on task the entire hour.
During today's study hall, Cabo completed his math homework and social studies reading. He also completed most of the reading for English class that is due Monday. He still has some written homework due on Monday for English class. He remained diligent and focused throughout the period.
Relaxation Techniques -- Stress Reduction for Students
Lesson Outline
Today Alexa and I worked through eight strategies for relieving stress and anxiety. The first recommendation is to get enough sleep -- 8 hours. We discussed the problems around actually being able to do this, and the importance of finding a way to do it! The next idea is to exercise consistently. We simply acknowledged this. Then there was the recommendation for guided visualization. We weren't sure what that was exactly, so we found an example that walked you through actually doing it on youtube! Alexa said that she could do it by following the words spoken. By this time we were very relaxed! (: The other strategies involved tension and release, and breathing. We did try the breathing exercises with visualization. Alexa said that she felt better at the end of our hour!
